Western sheep scanning was established in 2015 we use a bcf Ovi scan 6 which is advanced technology when it comes to sheep scanning ultrasound equipment in Australia. The sheep walk through a mobile scanning crate which allows the process to be quick and efficient. all equipment is washed down to avoid transferring disease.
We operate in the Great southern & Midwest region of western Australia WA. we start scanning in January and finish up in the end of July, from June to the end of July we work in Tasmania which keeps the season going a bit longer.
With our weather becoming more unreliable. Sheep ultrasound pregnancy Scanning is becoming more valuable.
Being able to sell dry ewes or have them for a later joining date. It helps Improve twins' survival rate & weaning weight by select feeding.
Studies have shown that lamb survival rate is almost directly related to ewe nutrition.
Majority of mature merino ewes have an approximate 60/40 ratio of singles to twins.
When scanning for multiples we work off 85 to 100 days from the day the rams went in. Going off a 6-week joining. (85 to 90 days being optimum)
Wet & dry scanning. 42 days from the day the ram was removed.
We usually set up off the end of a drafting race.
We have an automatic 3-way draft or can spray mark them whichever is preferred.
